NEW YORK (AP) — New York City Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott is proposing to offer buyouts to hundreds of teachers who don’t have permanent jobs.

Walcott said that if there’s no agreement by next fall, he will start removing teachers from classrooms after two years of bad ratings.

In a speech to business and civic leaders Thursday, Walcott also said he won’t wait for the teachers union to agree on a new evaluation system for its members.

Akerlund, who oversaw the show’s costume design. “The Roman Empire history and the emperor power is part of my DNA—I’m obsessed with Caligula and Caesar and Roman tradition and I always loved to mix this with American sportswear touches,” says Puglisi. Take advantage of your airline's faux pas to have an excuse to fill your new suitcase with authentically French fashion, including dresses that can go from day to night, from tres chic brands like Maje or Vanessa Bruno, whose store on rue des Etats-Unis just opened. There's even a Galeries Lafayette department store across from the train station with brand names handy. If you don't have time for a shopping spree, knock on the door of suite 215 at Hotel Martinez, where stylists Virginie Corre and Pascal Dupin set up shop. The duo, who have dressed Marion Cotillard for Cannes events, stock daytime and black-tie options including gowns by up-and-coming designers such as Veronica Moncho Lobo, plus stylish classics by Ermenegildo Zegna. "We'll help dress anyone with a key role in Cannes and the Marche du Film, whether it's an actress, a member of a film team, a studio head or the wife of a distributor," says Corre. "It's very personalized … if it's a high-networking person looking for something luxurious, I'll go to the top men's designers. We have partnerships with several brands such as Gucci. If I can't find it in Cannes, I'll find it in Nice or in Paris," says Sanae Gillot, Quintessentially's head of operations. For male executives scrambling to find a bow tie — aka noeud papillon — on the way to a premiere, Ile-de-France Film Commission's Yann Marchet says not to worry: "It's the simplest thing to find — all of the major hotels and most shops on La Croisette and rue d'Antibes sell them." And, if you're really running late, the Palais security team reportedly keeps extra bow ties tucked inside their jacket pockets because of the strict dress code. Says Marchet, "There was a big-time Warner Bros. exec a few years back whose flight was delayed and he arrived in jeans and cowboy boots, but he had a bow tie — so they let him in."

Fifteen emerging designers, including Thomas Tait, J.W. Anderson, and Christopher Raeburn, were announced by the British Fashion Council today as winners of its NEWGEN sponsorship. The designers, who follow in the footsteps of alumni like Alexander McQueen, Jonathan Saunders, and Christopher Kane, will receive support from the Topshop-sponsored program to show at London fashion week in February 2012. For his Resort ‘12 collection, Jason Wu channeled the vivid colors of Puerto Rico, glimpsed during a New Year’s vacation last year. Now that the weather in New York is turning chilly, a return to the beach sounds pretty appealing. That’s where Wu and photographer KT Auleta went to shoot their new Resort video. “KT has really been innovative with the way she’s worked with moving imagery,” Wu said of his collaborator. “I think movement is such an important part of clothes that it made complete sense to collaborate on a video that not only showed the Resort collection, but also told a vividly compelling story.” This story in particular was inspired by the slightly creepy mood of The Talented Mr. Ripley, although with Hailey Clauson taking on model/actress duties, it’s hard to see anything but sunshine. The video, which debuts exclusively here on Style.com, goes up on NeimanMarcus.com next week, along with an interview with Wu and Auleta.
